Last week I put out a three part series of posts on developing an ethic of Christian criticism (You can find the posts here, here and here) and received some pretty positive feedback from all of you.
Low and behold today, I log onto Facebook (oh who am I kidding, I'm permanently logged on) to discover an article linked by a colleague of mine that absolutely makes my point for me.
White Evangelical Gatekeeping: A particularly ugly example in real time
This article traces the development of a conflict between the establishment evangelical position and an Old Testament professor at Messiah College over some questions he asks regarding the difficult passages of the Bible regarding violence, genocide, slavery, etc. In linking you to this article, I'm not endorsing or rebuking the controversial position of the professor but rather I want you to see how the controversy is handled (poorly) by those who engage with it. And hopefully along the way, if you've been reading this blog and have interacted with my ethics of Christian criticism, you'll see how this example proves the point I've been trying to make.
And if you haven't read my earlier posts - what's stopping you? :)
Blessings,
Chris
